Arlington residents looking to spruce up their neighborhoods have an opportunity to do so with a little financial boost from the city. An announcement from the City of Arlington's Office of Communication details that applications for the 2026 Neighborhood Matching Grant program are now open. Funded through gas well revenue since 2007, the grant aims to fund projects that beautify, enhance public spaces, and fortify neighborhood ties in what's known as 'The American Dream City'.

Neighborhood groups with an IRS Employer Identification Number (EIN) and a bank account are eligible to apply for grants of up to $10,000, while registered homeowners' associations or nonprofits can request up to $25,000. The potential projects listed range from landscaping and signage to public art and park improvements. To qualify, applicants must submit a detailed budget, a project timeline, and adhere to City codes, among other requirements. The grant stipulates a 20% match from the neighborhood, including a 10% cash match, though this may be waived in certain circumstances.

To assist applicants, the City has scheduled six Information Sessions and a virtual meeting, as well as an optional workshop designed to give specialized training in filling out the grant application. The sessions will take place at various public libraries across Arlington between August 15 and October 5. Interested applicants must attend one of these meetings or view a recorded presentation online if they wish to apply for the Neighborhood Matching Grant program.

The Arlington City Council is set to review and approve submitted projects by January 2026. For further information about the grant program or if there are any questions, residents are encouraged to contact [email protected]
