An armed robbery suspect led Houston police on a 15-minute chase through southwest Houston before being fatally shot by officers last night. According to Click2Houston, the incident began near Bellaire and Kirkwood around 7 p.m., when officers responded to an armed robbery report. The police pursuit started when officers located and attempted to pull over the suspect's vehicle, but the driver refused to comply.
The chase eventually came to an end at a home on the 8800 block of Aspen Meadow Drive. A Houston Police Department spokesperson stated that the suspect exited his vehicle armed, and officers issued multiple verbal commands for him to drop his weapon. His refusal to do so led to multiple officers discharging their guns, resulting in the individual's death. "No officers were injured in the incident," as reported by Click2Houston.
Moreover, KHOU provided further details, indicating that after the shooting, officers immediately began providing medical aid. Despite their efforts, the Houston Fire Department crews pronounced the man dead at the scene. The deceased suspect is believed to be in his mid-30s, although it's unclear if he lived in the neighborhood where the confrontation occurred.
As per the Houston Police Department policies, body-worn camera footage from the incident will be released within 30 days. The identity of the suspect has not yet been disclosed as investigations continue into his potential connection with other robberies, as noted by KHOU.
