A high-speed motorcycle chase ended abruptly last week when the rider collided with another vehicle before crashing into a fence and eventually landing on a front porch at 104th St. E and Vickery Ave. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that the incident occurred around 2:00 pm last Thursday.
The aftermath turned residents' yards into an impromptu hideout as the suspect, a 29-year-old male, fled from the crash site. Urging locals to shield him since he was in possession of firearms, the man was found by deputies in a homeowner's garage, as they were informed by the residents who sheltered him uncertainly. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Blotter, two pistols, including one with an extended magazine and determined to be stolen, were discovered in the suspect's backpack.
The damaged motorcycle, which the deputies found resting on a porch after having ruptured a fence, was just one piece of evidence among many. The rider, who had felony warrants, is now facing an extensive list of charges. These include burglary in the 1st degree, two counts of hit and run, unlawful possession of a firearm, possessing a stolen firearm, driving while license was suspended in the 3rd degree, reckless driving, and several others related to firearm violations and controlled substances possession, as per the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
As a result of the investigation, the discovery of numerous bills of varying denominations and individually bagged large quantities of presumed drugs led to probable cause for additional charges. "Probable cause was established for delivery of a substance in lieu of a controlled substance," the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Blotter stated as deputies combed through the crash scene. Much to the relief of local authorities and residents, no injuries were reported in connection with this incident.
While this unexpected disturbance ruffled the peace of a summer afternoon, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department commended its deputies' swift action that resulted in one less criminal disrupting the streets. "This was a great story as we head into the nice weekend with one less criminal on our streets," reported the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Blotter, a sentiment surely echoed by the neighborhood disrupted by the day's events.
