According to CBS Austin, 38-year-old Jacob Glenn Bender was taken into custody on charges of criminal trespass following the incident at Austin Pets Alive! (APA!). The break-in not only ended tragically for one dog but also left several others injured.
Details of the break-in, which unfolded in the early hours of August 14, paint a disturbing picture. The intruder, now identified as Bender, was captured on surveillance footage dismantling the facility's keypad system to illegally enter the premises and then releasing dogs from their kennels. These acts of intrusion set off a chain of dog altercations, which resulted in injuries treated by the shelter staff. KVUE reports that Bender, after allegedly taking two dogs from the shelter, ended up at a bar where he was convinced by patrons to hand over the dogs, who later assisted in their safe return to APA!.
