Authorities are seeking the public's assistance after skeletal human remains were discovered near a cemetery off the Jackie Robinson Parkway in Brooklyn. A Department of Transportation worker, while mowing the cemetery lawn near exit 1 westbound, found the remains on Aug. 3 at around 10:30 a.m., as reported by PIX11.
Enclosed in a trash bag, the skeleton was believed by the NYPD to be that of a female, estimated to be 20-30 years old, standing anywhere between 4 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 2 inches tall. Having dark brown curly hair with bleached ends and a rose tattoo on her left buttocks, the identity of the woman remains unknown. Alongside the human remains, photos of jewelry found at the scene were released by the police, hoping someone might recognize the items and come forward with information.
Meanwhile, the proximity of the find to the Cypress Hill Cemetery has not gone unnoticed, as per New York Post. The cemetery holds historical significance, being the final resting place of the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball legend Jackie Robinson, the same icon who gave his name to the adjacent highway.
The initial discovery was made by Department of Transportation workers positioned near Westbound Exit 1 of the Jackie Robinson Highway. Photographs captured the moment authorities removed the possible human skeleton, clearly against the backdrop of headstones from Cypress Hill Cemetery. Visible in a body bag, the skeleton's fate lies in the hands of the medical examiner, tasked with determining if the remains are human before ascertaining the cause of death and identity.
Police are urging anyone with information about the jewelry or tattoo to come forward as they work to identify the woman found along a busy Brooklyn street.
