Tragedy struck at a Huntington Beach business on Monday when employee Lucero San Pedro-Castro, 29, of Baldwin Park, reportedly opened fire on two coworkers at the California Closets warehouse, with one man sustaining major gunshot injuries, KTLA reports. After the incident, the suspect fled the scene but was later involved in a fatal encounter with police.
The shooting happened early in the day, around 7:15 a.m., and the quick response from the Huntington Beach Police Department helped ensure that the injured victim received the critical care necessary, including tourniquets to stop the bleeding notwithstanding, his condition is stabilized, and he is expected to survive, as per information released by the Huntington Beach Police Department. The second victim managed to escape unharmed.
Following the initial chaos, the scene at 5921 Skylab Road was processed by detectives, where the gun used in the crime was not found, as the area became the focus of an active investigation by the police, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department. The situation escalated hours later when South Gate police located San Pedro-Castro. She allegedly pointed a gun at an officer, prompting an officer-involved shooting in which she was fatally wounded. Police confirmed her death, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau has opened a separate investigation. The Huntington Beach Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact authorities.
