In response to the recent classification of Baltimore County as a 'sanctuary jurisdiction' by the U.S. Justice Department, County Executive Kathy Klausmeier has vehemently denied the label. According to the Baltimore County Government press release yesterday, Klausmeier asserts, "Baltimore County is not a ‘sanctuary jurisdiction’." She is taking the claim seriously enough to involve the Office of Law, which is already reaching out to rectify what she considers a stark mistake.
Putting the label to question, Klausmeier reiterated the county's commitment to public safety, emphasizing the practice of community policing as a key strategy. "We will continue to support our valued law enforcement personnel while following federal, state, and local laws," she explained, per the county's press release, underscoring her administration's commitment to maintaining peace through cooperative measures.
The stance taken by Klausmeier is not just one of bureaucratic correction but also of reasserting the county’s role in sustaining essential services and public resource access. "These are the building blocks of healthy and thriving communities," Klausmeier stated, according to the county's press release, to underscore the importance of such services, waving off the 'sanctuary' label as a hindrance to the community's fabric.
