A DoorDash driver's vehicle, reported stolen in Brighton, was recovered by Duxbury Police Department officers after a hit-and-run incident on Sunday. According to the official social media post by the department, the grey Honda Civic involved in the collision was traced to Enterprise St. where officers were able to apprehend the driver as she attempted to depart the driveway.
The series of events unfolded after a motorist who had been hit by the Honda followed the vehicle and contacted the police. The suspected driver, initially identifying herself as "Layla Marie," was found without a driver's license or registration. She claimed to be licensed in Mississippi and stopped to smoke marijuana, a claim supported by a joint she displayed and a bag of marijuana retrieved from her purse. After multiple attempts by officers to verify her identity, during which the woman repeatedly provided false names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers, she was properly identified as Essence Booker, a 20-year-old from Boston, MA.
The Honda Civic was confirmed to be registered to an individual from Nashua, New Hampshire, who acknowledged the vehicle had been stolen while making deliveries for DoorDash. The sergeant on scene made the contact with the registered owner, verifying the theft. Consequently, Ms. Booker faced charges including Receiving Stolen Property Over $1200, Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle, Motor Vehicle Operator Refusing to Identify, Use of a Motor Vehicle Without Authority, and Possession of Marijuana.
Upon her arrest, it was confirmed that Booker does not hold a valid driver's license in either Massachusetts or Mississippi. Details on Booker's arraignment and legal proceedings are forthcoming.
