The Boulder County Commissioners, alongside Parks & Open Space staff, are set to honor local environmental heroes at the Ron Stewart Parks & Open Space headquarters on September 18 from 3-4 p.m., as part of their annual Conservation Awards ceremony. This event, which seeks to recognize those who've made substantial contributions to land preservation, stewardship, and cultural practices, will be held at 5201 St. Vrain Rd., Longmont, according to Boulder County Parks & Open Space.
The awards this year highlight a spectrum of local conservation efforts, Linda Holubar Sanabria is set to receive the Land Conservation Award for her efforts in preserving the Spruce Gulch property, Dave Sutherland will be recognized with the Environmental Stewardship Award for his lifelong dedication to environmental education, and the powerful work of Andrea Yoloteotl Nawage through Harvest of All First Nations will garner her the Community Connections Award, providing space for Indigenous individuals to deepen their ties with the land. Stephanie Wendorf's commitment to the Agricultural Heritage Center earns her the Cultural & Historic Preservation Award, showcasing the importance of maintaining the region's rich agricultural history.
In addition to these outstanding recognitions, the ceremony will honor volunteers who have gone above and beyond; Roberta Johnston, notable for her distinguished service as a Wildlife Master Volunteer, and Kumiko “Amy” Iwata, celebrated as a principal member of the Weed Warriors program, are slated to receive the Outstanding Volunteer Awards. For individuals requiring ADA accommodations, Boulder County ensures accessibility for all to partake in its programs, and requests should be directed to [email protected] or by calling 303-441-1386 at least two business days before the event.
