According to ABC7NY, the collision occurred at Atlantic Avenue where the officer was struck while riding his motorcycle.
The accused, Carlos Almanzar Toribio, has been charged with multiple offenses including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and operating an unregistered vehicle with no license plate. His identity has not been released officially, pending family notification.
Following the incident, detectives used video footage from the scene to identify the box truck involved. As reported by The Post, Toribio, a Washington Heights resident with no prior arrests, was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m. the same day of the crash.
Authorities said the motorcyclist collided with the truck around 8:30 a.m. near Exit 27 on the westbound expressway.
