The Camarillo Police Department is sounding the alarm on a wave of thefts from vehicles in the area, with particular concern for those left unlocked or with valuables in sight, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. In a bid to combat the rise in such incidents, the department's Investigations Bureau is urging Camarillo residents to adopt precautionary measures, including the consistent locking of vehicles and removal of any valuables that might catch a thief's eye.
"These crimes are often crimes of opportunity," the release states. Ventura County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to arrests linked to these thefts. Those with information are encouraged to make that potentially lucrative call while opting to stay anonymous if so desired.
In the face of the surging vehicle break-ins, the department is not only asking citizens to be vigilant but also to report any suspicious activities directly through emergency and non-emergency contact lines. Detective Kenneth Ledesma, who prepared the notice, also emphasizes the community's role in awareness and preventative action, aiming to bring down the property crime rate in Camarillo.
