In a troubling incident in Carmichael, a mother was detained after allegedly attacking her 10-year-old child with a machete-style knife while the child was showering. According to the ABC10 report, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said the attack happened around 8:30 p.m. along the 5600 block of Angelina Avenue. Amid the chaos, the father managed to hold the mother down until deputies arrived and took her into custody. "Adult mother went into the bathroom where her 10-year-old son was showering and went in there with a machete-style knife and started slashing at the 10-year-old," Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, detailed the harrowing scene.
The KCRA report added that the child, who suffered multiple wounds, was expected to survive and had been transported to an area hospital. The father, who had intervened, also sustained stab wounds but is expected to recover from the non-life-threatening injuries. The report mentioned that there was no history of domestic violence at the home and the victim was the only child in the residence.
Facts surrounding the motivation for the attack are still under investigation by local authorities. The mother's identity has not been released at this time. "There were several wounds, so hard to say if they were full on stabs. There were several slashes and again, both suffered multiple wounds. But fortunately, some of them may have been on the hands and arms and torso," Sgt. Gandhi threw additional light on the injuries in a statement obtained by ABC10.
Meanwhile, the FOX40 coverage confirmed the child's hospitalization and the father's injury, both of whom are expected to survive. And as per the CBS Sacramento report, deputies say the child's father held the mother after the alleged stabbing down until the authorities arrived at the scene.
