A reported shooting incident in Carver, Massachusetts, has prompted an intensive investigation by local law enforcement. According to a press release from John Guilfoil Public Relations, the Carver Police Department began investigating after a 28-year-old woman, a former resident of Carver, reported being shot at Sampson Pond yesterday evening.
The woman entered the Carver Police Department shortly after the incident, at approximately 7:37 p.m., with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, sustained reportedly while she was walking her dog. Walking into the station, she had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to her leg, and Carver EMS promptly transported her to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for treatment. "We are taking this report very seriously and are devoting all necessary resources to determine exactly what happened," Chief Marc Duphily said in a statement obtained by John Guilfoil Public Relations.
In the aftermath, the Carver Police along with multiple agencies, including a Massachusetts State Police helicopter, a K-9 unit from the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, and a drone unit from the Rochester Police Department, scoured the area around the pond. The search resulted in Lakeview Street and Tremont Street being closed for several hours, reported by NBC Boston. The intensive response from the law enforcement, including when the area was searched by a drone unit from the Rochester Police Department, was done in an effort to canvass the expansive area efficiently.
Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act, and thus there is "no ongoing threat to the public," suggested by preliminary findings. Yet, as Carver Police Chief Marc Duphily expressed in a statement provided to NBC Boston, the authorities remain focused on piecing together the circumstances that led to the shooting. "We ask residents to report any information they believe is relevant to the investigation to our department," Duphily stated, signaling the importance of community engagement in resolving the violent transgression.
The investigation remains active, and Carver Police are calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward by contacting their department at 508-866-2000.
