Tragedy struck the family of influencer Emilie Kiser when her 3-year-old son, Trigg, drowned in May after being left unsupervised near an unsecured pool. The Chandler Police Department has released a detailed report which was obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, describing the sequence of events that led to the child's death.
On the evening of May 12, while Emilie Kiser was out, her husband, Brady, was at home and is said to have been distracted by Game 4 of the NBA playoffs, during which he placed a successful bet on DraftKings. According to the same report, Trigg was outside playing unsupervised for over nine minutes, spending approximately seven of those minutes in the water before his father found him unconscious. This grim sequence unfolded despite a clear burden of responsibility lying upon the only adult present at the time.
The report noted that Brady had acted "immediately" when he saw his son in the pool, though his earlier statement about his awareness of Trigg's activities did not align with video evidence. Trigg's mother, who was notified and returned from being 20 minutes away, was transported with her son to Phoenix Children's Hospital, where he tragically passed away six days later. In an emotional interview segment included in the report, Brady told investigators, "I think just that, he was playing out back, he was wandering and playing about like he does, and must have slipped, must have you know, I think it was an accident that he had fallen into the water obviously because he knows, he's safe, he knows he's not supposed to go around it ..."
Despite the Chandler Police Department's recommendation of child abuse charges based on the report's findings, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office opted not to press charges. The decision was explained with the rationale that there were no reasonable likelihood of a conviction, as the office's statement mentioned the necessity to demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt "that the person failed to perceive a substantial and unjustifiable risk" and that this failure was a "gross deviation from the standard of care a reasonable person would show," according to WBZ NewsRadio.
Emilie Kiser has since filed a lawsuit aimed at keeping certain records related to her son's death private, a deeply personal plea amidst her sudden silence on social media platforms where she previously had an active presence. The Kiser family, now facing an unfathomable loss, had previously shared moments of joy such as their Easter celebration, now overshadowed by the tragedy that followed.
