A hoax shooting threat at California Area High School this morning led to quick action by school officials and local law enforcement, ultimately resulting in an announcement that charges are expected to be filed against the caller. According to WPXI, the reportedly young female voice communicated a demand for $2,000 in a red container, failing which they threatened to shoot the school up and kill themselves.
The school responded rapidly by securing the buildings and promptly contacting 911, per official statements. These measures were followed carefully to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst the uncertainty of the situation. Officials are reported as saying that the received threat was not credible, yet they took the precautionary step to provide additional police presence until the end of the school day. "We do not feel this is a credible threat; however, we treat all threats with caution to ensure all safety," school district officials explained, which was detailed by WTAE.
While campus access was restricted, parents and guardians were granted the option to securely pick up their children from school. To enable this, a system was established where IDs had to be shown at the top of a specified hill, after which students were brought to their awaiting parents.
