Charlotte residents are grappling with the news of a fatal accident that claimed the life of a local motorcyclist over the weekend. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) reported a tragic collision that occurred on Saturday, at the intersection of N. Graham Street and Norris Avenue. The crash, which took place at around 4:10 p.m., involved a motorcycle and a Lexus RX350, according to the official statement released by CMPD.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered the motorcycle in question lying on its side and its rider, Joshua Alec Aguila, 30 years of age, unresponsive in the street. Lorie Barber Hill, 64, the driver of the Lexus, was found nearby with her vehicle showing extensive damage on the driver-side. While emergency services were quick to respond, MEDIC pronounced Mr. Aguila deceased at the scene. Ms. Hill was transported to a hospital to receive care for injuries deemed non-life-threatening. The CMPD reports that Joshua Alec Aguila's next of kin has been notified of his demise.

The CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, alongside the DWI Task Force and Motorcycle Unit, arrived to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Crime Scene Search teams were also dispatched to collect physical evidence and process the site of the accident. Preliminary findings by CMPD officials seem to suggest that the cause of the crash was speed and reckless operation on part of Mr. Aguila, with toxicology results still pending. Ms. Hill, on the other hand, was found neither to have been speeding nor impaired.

The investigation is ongoing and further details will become available as the CMPD continues to look thoroughly into the matter. They encourage anyone with information regarding the collision to come forward to help provide closure to all parties involved and to possibly prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
