Chicagoans are facing another day under a veil of haze as the city contends with poor air quality for a fourth consecutive day. According to a report by Fox 32, the Air Quality Alert has been extended, blanketing the city in conditions that some residents find stifling. The worst of it hugs the shoreline of Lake Michigan, while areas further out, such as DeKalb, LaSalle, and Kankakee counties, have been spared from the advisory.

In the face of these conditions, local meteorologists are advising residents to expect temperatures to hover around the 80-degree mark, with those near the lake likely to see temperatures in the upper 70s. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service confirms a forecast of mostly sunny skies with highs nearing 79 today, and a slight uptick to around 81 degrees on Monday.

Despite the continuation of hazy skies and suboptimal air quality, no significant precipitation is on the immediate horizon to clear out the smoke and improve conditions. "The best chance for rain is on Tuesday, although rain chances then are only around 20%," stated Fox 32 in their coverage. So while residents might look eagerly to the sky for a cleansing downpour, the likelihood remains slim in the coming days.

With the city caught in this persistent smoky embrace, public health advisories urge those with respiratory conditions to take caution and limit outdoor exposure. For now, Chicago will have to wait and see if Tuesday's forecasted chance of rain will be enough to truly cleanse to clear the air. In the meantime, the East northeast winds, persistent, if not strong, persist in their course, as noted by the National Weather Service, yet they carry not the relief the city needs.
