West Oahu chicken sandwich enthusiasts will have a new destination this Thursday as Chick-fil-A opens its fifth Hawaiian location in Kapolei. The restaurant at 890 Kamokila Boulevard will feature something unprecedented in the islands: the first indoor playground at any Hawaii Chick-fil-A location.

According to KITV, the location will open on August 28, offering standard dine-in, carry-out, delivery, and catering services alongside the unique playground feature for keiki. As reported by Hawaii News Now, customers who arrive dressed in cow print on opening day will receive a free entrée or kid's meal.

Local Owner-Operator Returns Home

The Kamokila Boulevard location will be operated by Nick Lovan, a Honolulu native who views this opportunity as particularly meaningful. In a statement to KITV, Lovan said, “I’m most excited to create meaningful experiences that make every guest, team member, and neighbor feel like part of our ohana.” The restaurant will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the drive-thru remaining open until 10 p.m.

Strategic West Oahu Expansion

This marks Chick-fil-A's second location in the Kapolei area, following the chain's first free-standing Oahu restaurant that opened on Kapolei Parkway in December 2023. This makes Chick-fil-A's fifth official restaurant on Oahu, with three stand-alone locations in Kapolei Parkway, Makiki, and Kahului, plus one inside Ala Moana mall, as per KITV.

The rapid expansion reflects Chick-fil-A’s ambitious growth plans in Hawaii, with the company announcing new locations in Windward Oahu and near Honolulu airport. Chick-fil-A has also shown its commitment to local communities through charitable giving, including donations to Maui Food Bank and Hawai‘i Foodbank following previous openings.

From Mainland Arrival to Island Institution

Chick-fil-A's Hawaii journey began relatively recently, with the first Oahu location opening at Ala Moana Shopping Center on October 20, 2022. As detailed by KITV, lines wrapped around the block for that opening, marking the second Hawaii location following the Maui opening in September 2022.

While the Kamokila location prepares to welcome customers, construction continues on other planned sites. A new Chick-fil-A is under construction at Kapiʻolani Boulevard and Kalākaua Avenue in the former Honolulu Coffee flagship store space, which closed last October, as mentioned by Aloha State Daily.

For families in particular, the addition of Hawaii's first indoor Chick-fil-A playground could transform the Kamokila location into a destination rather than just another drive-through option—a fitting development for a community that has watched West Oahu evolve into one of the state's fastest-growing residential areas.
