Last night, the Cincinnati Fire Department reported a rescue that goes beyond the typical call of duty – a young fawn found itself trapped in a storm drain on Ridge Rd in Oakley. The rescue was carried out by Capt. Eric Uhlhorn and FF Martez Mitchell, who successfully freed the fawn, unharmed and seemingly ready to find its mother. According to the Cincinnati Fire Department's social media post, the escapade ended on a light note, with the fawn set to return to familiar pastures.
However, the initial joy was briefly marred by a mix-up within the social media recognition ranks. An initial post misidentified FF Martez Mitchell as FF Figueroa, a slip that was cheekily highlighted by the Cincinnati Fire Department after the post had been widely shared. "We don’t always make these sorts of mistakes, but when we do, it will absolutely be on a post shared almost 200 times," stated the correction.
The response from Cincinnati's finest came with no less dedication, a hallmark of the department's commitment to community safety – regardless of the species in need. As urban sprawl continues to skirt the edges of wilderness, tales such as these remind us of the common thread of coexistence. The Cincinnati Fire Department has long been an institution that regards every life, be it human or otherwise, with a measure of dignity.
