Last Friday, the City of Milton recognized local heroes with its annual Core Value Awards, acknowledging city employees who've consistently gone above and beyond in their service to the community. This ceremony brought together team members from various departments, all gathered at the Milton City Park and Preserve’s Community Center to celebrate exceptional dedication and leadership.
According to a recent announcement from the City of Milton's website, the event highlighted individuals nominated by their peers for outstanding work that rises above Milton’s high standards. These were not one-hit wonders but rather individuals exemplifying the city’s values—like leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to preserving Milton’s rural character—day in and day out.
Recipients of this year's Core Value Awards run the gamut from public safety officers to fiscal experts. Noteworthy among them are JAMES BINKLEY, a firefighter notable for his mentorship; ROB DELL-ROSS from the Public Works Department; and MATTHEW GRANEY, who handles recreation coordination with problem-solving finesse. CHRISTIANE HERNDON was commended for stellar service in the Finance and Community Development departments, while JIM IVEY earned accolades for his multiskilled support as a Facilities Technician.
Further commendations were given to the likes of WENDY JOHNSON for her Finance Department expertise, and Chief Building Official Gary Mullinix, known for his objective enforcement of building codes. DENNIS PISHOCK, a police officer, was recognized for his proactive contributions to mental health in the police force, while OKSANA SOLOVEI was celebrated for her multimedia coverage of city events. BRIAN STAFFORD and JENNIFER STEPHENS received nods for their roles in police work and fire-rescue administration, respectively. Completing the list is HEAH 'ARTHUR' TAY, an approachable Plans Examiner with reputed coolness under pressure, as mentioned on the city's website.
The dual award this year went to Deputy Police Chief CHRIS WARD and Human Resources Director MATT MARIETTA. Both were lauded for their cross-departmental collaboration and leadership during a critical period for the city's HR functions. The City is accepting nominations for the next round of accolades and encourages residents to submit their suggestions online at any time.
