On the evening of August 5, Palm Desert Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence responding to a burglary report. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the victim was present in the home during the incident. The agency's Robbery and Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) quickly took over the investigation. Their work led to the identification of 24-year-old Coachella resident Samantha Gomez as the suspect allegedly involved in the heist.
Nearly three weeks after the burglary, around 6:00 p.m. yesterday, law enforcement was able to locate and then arrest Gomez. In a collaborative effort, members from the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team worked alongside Palm Desert authorities, as per the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Gomez was apprehended near Interstate 10 and Washington Street in Palm Desert and is now facing charges of residential burglary in the first degree. She was subsequently booked at the John Benoit Detention Center located in Indio.
