A tragic event unfolded on Wednesday, as the Solano County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a missing person at Sandy Beach in Rio Vista. In what became a grim search and recovery effort, 23-year-old Nico Cuevas from Antioch was ultimately located, deceased. The discovery was made yesterday, and an extensive search operation was finalized over two days.
The initial distress call was received around 4:30 PM, prompting an immediate response from the Solano County Sheriff's Office alongside Rio Vista Police Officers, and not excluding the local Marine Patrol. The search was forced to halt as the sun dipped below the horizon, only to resume with daylight at 8:00 AM on Thursday. A statement from the Solano County Sheriff's Office detailed, "At around 4:00 PM, a remotely operated vehicle located the missing person underwater in the Sandy Beach area, and divers recovered the body."
The search operation garnered support from various corners, with Nico's family, friends, and an assembly of volunteers springing into action. This was buttressed further by the collective efforts of multiple agencies. These included the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office Marine Enforcement Detail and Dive Team, Napa County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit, and the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol, among others. Also contributing to the search were the Solano County Parks, Rio Vista Police Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard Rio Vista Station.
