Earlier today, Ford Elementary School in Conroe, Texas, was evacuated following the detection of a gas odor, leading to a prompt response from emergency services. The source of the smell was quickly traced back to an issue with a boiler, Conroe Independent School District officials reported. Click2Houston relayed that students and staff at the school were placed in shaded areas outside while the school's maintenance personnel collaborated on repairs.
Throughout the response, care was taken to ensure the safety of the evacuated individuals, with drinking water being provided, as mentioned by the district, schools' staff, and, law enforcement maintained a presence to ensure order and precaution. The Conroe Independent School District, in a statement shared with Fox26 Houston, confirmed, "There have been no reported injuries, and all students and staff are safe." The district also expressed gratitude for the rapid intervention of emergency responders and asked for parents and residents to avoid the area during operations.
The Montgomery County Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department, and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene out of what the district called "an abundance of caution," as noted by Fox26 Houston. They joined the school district's maintenance department in addressing and repairing the cause of the leak.
While the immediate danger has been mitigated, authorities continue to work on the campus, and the district has asked members of the media to respect the ongoing operations by not visiting the campus at this time.
