Two men with prior felony convictions are now facing federal firearms charges after allegedly engaging in a shootout on a busy street in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood. According to a criminal complaint unsealed in Brooklyn federal court, Edynesson Bauduy and Aaron Richard are accused of exchanging gunfire in broad daylight on Tuesday, as detailed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
Authorities, including United States Attorney Joseph Nocella, revealed that both men allegedly resumed criminal behavior shortly after being released from prison. “As alleged, these defendants are convicted felons who engaged in a dangerous gunfight on a busy Brooklyn street in broad daylight, endangering the lives of numerous citizens,” Nocella stated in the press release. The arrests, made as part of Operation Summer Heat, are part of a coordinated effort to address gun violence and repeat offenses.
Undercover NYPD officers from the 70th Precinct responded quickly after hearing gunfire around 7:25 p.m., converging near 533 Ocean Avenue where they reportedly found Bauduy and Richard engaged in a shootout. A firearm and several shell casings connected to the suspects were later recovered at the scene.
The charges are allegations until proven in court. If convicted, the defendants could face up to 15 years in prison. As the case proceeds, Assistant United States Attorneys Brachah Goykadosh and Matthew Sullivan will lead the prosecution on behalf of the government.
