Corner Bistro is set to open a new location at 94 Avenue A in the East Village, marking an expansion of the long-standing West Village burger spot. Known for its consistent menu and late-night hours since 1961, the new site is expected to follow the same model as the original, according to details from Eater NY.
The East Village location will feature 17 tables seating 50 patrons and a 31-foot bar with 15 stools, with customer service limited to the ground floor, unlike previous tenants of the space. This site was formerly occupied by Sidewalk, a venue that hosted the Antifolk Festival until it closed in 2019. Corner Bistro will bring its menu and atmosphere to this address, as reported by EV Grieve.
Owner Elizabeth McGrath, who took the reins from her parents, the original proprietors Bill and Lorraine O'Donnell, in 2015, is expanding the family business despite previous setbacks in Long Island City and Hell's Kitchen due to pandemic struggles. As McGrath continues to uphold the family legacy, the planned hours for the new spot are from 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.
Previous tenants at the Avenue A location include the sports bar Offside Tavern and the cocktail bar August Laura, both of which faced pandemic-related hurdles before their eventual closure. According to information Eater NY obtained, Corner Bistro aims to maintain the distinctive character of its burgers and bars as it prepares to open in this location.
