Following a dangerous road rage incident earlier this year, a D.C. man has been handed down a prison sentence for violently assaulting a senior citizen. Ronald Hall, 56, will face 36 months behind bars, with 30 months to be served in prison, after a plea of guilty to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, according to a report from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nickolas Reck, stemmed from a confrontation on March 1, when Hall and the victim were involved in a collision near the 3900 block of East Capitol Street NE. The altercation escalated quickly, and Hall attempted to stab the other driver amidst the traffic. Hall was apprehended at the scene, the U.S. Attorney's Office detailed in a statement.
Superior Court Judge Carmen McLean delivered the sentence on July 29, ordering Hall to not only serve time but also imposing two years of supervised probation upon his release. During this probationary period, Hall must comply with substance abuse treatment and abstain from alcohol. Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department was also noted in the announcement for her involvement in the investigation.
The sentencing comes at a time when road rage incidents are a point of contention in the community, the situation sheds light on the consequences of aggressive driving behavior in the city.
