The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), in coordination with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, TX, has flagged Wednesday, August 13, as an Ozone Action Day for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. According to the National Weather Service, atmospheric conditions are anticipated to lead to elevated levels of ozone air pollution.
Residents are encouraged to contribute to lowering ozone levels by sharing rides, walking, biking, taking lunch to work, steering clear of drive-through lanes, conserving energy, and maintaining their vehicles. While the sun is set to shine predominantly, with daily highs pushing into the mid to high 90s, the buildup of ozone could pose a challenge for those with respiratory issues, and everyone is advised to be mindful of the air quality while planning their day.
The forecast provided by the National Weather Service predicts a series of mostly sunny days, with chances of thunderstorms and showers primarily before 10 am or after 1 pm. Heat index values throughout the week are expected to crest over the 100-degree mark, challenging residents to find cooling reprieve under the watchful eye of the Texas sun.
With nightly lows hovering in the high 70s and calm, southern winds providing minimal respite, evenings may offer only slight relief from the persistent heat. Amidst the weather conditions, the TCEQ and its partners provide resources such as "Ozone: The Facts" and the "Take Care of Texas" campaign to educate and engage the public about air quality and individual environmental responsibility.
