Dearborn’s City Beautiful Commission has opened nominations for the 2025 Business Standard of Excellence Awards (BSOE), which honor the city’s best-looking local businesses. Focused on appearance rather than profits, the commission aims to recognize businesses that help beautify the city. According to the city’s official news portal, nominees can range from large retailers to small cafes—as long as they stand out visually.
The eligibility criteria are broad, as the commission aims to recognize any business that stands out through attractive design and landscaping. “We encourage residents and business owners to nominate commercial properties that reflect a high standard of design, landscaping and care,” said Rene Ziaja, chair of the commission, in a statement on the city’s website. From trimmed shrubs to eye-catching architecture, any business with curb appeal can qualify. The city also makes it clear that this award is not about profits or service quality—it’s all about visual charm.
The clock is ticking, though, as nominations are only accepted until 9 a.m. on August 19. If you're looking to hail your local favorite business for its visual virtues, you'll need to send an email to [email protected]. Each submission should include the name and address of the business property in question, with an option to attach up to two photos to bolster your case. The commission’s judges will carefully review each property, with winners to be announced in the fall.
