Sunday morning at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport saw an unusual delay for passengers when a Delta Air Lines flight made contact with another aircraft. Flight DL1830, while being pushed back from the gate, clipped the wing of another Delta plane, which according to FOX 5, was empty at the time.
While the delay affected nearly 200 people, Delta confirmed there were no injuries. The passengers, including four flight attendants and two pilots, had to be transferred to another aircraft which caused a significant delay in their travel plans. The rebooking of 192 passengers on a different plane following the incident, as the aircraft was empty, will not impact operations, according to Atlanta News First.
The delay totaled close to four hours, with the flight initially scheduled to depart for Guatemala City at just after 10 a.m. FlightAware's tracking data highlighted by FOX 5 shows that the aircraft eventually took off at 1:48 p.m., expected to reach its destination shortly before 4 p.m. Eastern time. In light of the events, Delta issued an apology stating, "We apologize to our customers for the experience and delay in their travels."
Details surrounding the exact cause of the incident remain under review, but Delta's responsiveness in accommodating passengers underlined their commitment to safety and customer service. The airline's statement quoted by Atlanta News First included, "We apologize for the experience and delay in travels as we work to quickly accommodate all customers on another aircraft."
