For those planning to travel, the Denton Airport's administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, but the air traffic control tower and the airfield will continue to operate, with the tower open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Airport Operations can be contacted around the clock at (940) 349-7722, per the City of Denton.
Animal lovers should take note that the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center will shut its doors on the holiday, but for non-emergencies, Animal Services can still be reached at (940) 349-8181, while emergencies should be directed to 911. Meanwhile, bibliophiles are out of luck as all libraries will be closed on Sept. 1, resuming standard hours the following day. The Denton Municipal Court also takes a pause and will be closed on Monday, but the city reminds that online options and phone payments are available 24/7.
Recreation centers across Denton, like the Denia Rec Center and the MLK Jr. Rec Center, will be not be available on Labor Day, closing their doors on Sept. 1. This doesn't mean all activities are off the table - Water Works Park, the Denton Civic Center Pool, and the Denton Natatorium are sticking to their normal hours, with the first two marking their last open day of the season on Labor Day. For tennis and pickleball enthusiasts, the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center, as well as the North Lakes Driving Range, will maintain their usual 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. schedule.
Regarding public safety, the City assures residents that all personnel will be on duty throughout the holiday period. While many might be focused on celebrations, residents should remember that solid waste and recycling collections will be delayed by one day for the entire week of Sept. 1 to Sept. 5, so Monday pickups shift to Tuesday, and so on through the week.
