The Denton Police Department is actively investigating a shooting that left one man dead last Saturday in the city's downtown area. The incident, which has jarred the local community, happened in broad daylight and involved two individuals—one of whom was shot multiple times following an altercation, as per the official statement from the City of Denton.
The shooting unfolded when an, yet unnamed man who was out with his family on the Square got involved in a disturbance with 61-year-old Jon Ruff. The confrontation subsequently escalated to the 200 block of W. Hickory Street, where Ruff was shot. Despite being quickly transported to a hospital, Ruff was pronounced dead, a fact later confirmed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. The shooter did not flee the scene and has been detained for questioning to fully cooperate with the police investigation.
