As the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaches, community leaders from various Denton County cities are preparing to come together in remembrance. According to the City of Lewisville, the "Red, White, and Blue Freedom Walk" is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m., bringing together officials from Lewisville, Highland Village, Hickory Creek, Corinth, Shady Shores, Lake Dallas, Denton, and Denton County in a poignant tribute.
Participants, including city leaders, will converge at the midpoint of the Lewisville Lake pedestrian bridge for a visual representation of unity—a "virtual handoff" of American flags at sunset. Although representation comes from a variety of cities, event organizers are driving home a non-political stance, inviting the public to carry American, Texas, or U.S. military branch flags, explicitly advising against the inclusion of political materials in the mix.
Those interested in joining from the south will gather at Doubletree Ranch Park at the specified time, while their counterparts from the north are set to meet at the intersection of Oak Drive and the southbound I-35E service road. The aim is to unite both groups in the middle of the bridge, timed perfectly for a sunset photo opportunity that captures the heartfelt "virtual handoff" as a shared gesture of remembrance and respect.
