
A man has been left dead following a shooting that erupted in downtown Denton last Saturday. The Denton Police Department is actively investigating the incident that transpired on the 200 block of W. Hickory Street. Following the shooting, the street was shut down but has since been reopened to the public as of 4:30 p.m., according to the City of Denton.
The tragedy unfolded around noon when several bystanders frantically dialed 911 to report gunfire. "Multiple 911 callers reported a shooting in the 200 block of W. Hickory Street," the City of Denton stated. A dispute sparked the violence, involving a male patron and an individual characterized by police as experiencing homelessness. Detained by police upon their arrival, the patron is cooperating with authorities.
Emergency responders transported the victim to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save his life. Throughout the day, updates rolled in, with the City of Denton confirming via social media that "the shooting victim was transported to a hospital, where life-saving measures were unsuccessful."
As the investigation persists, details remain sparse. What is known is that the shooter, moments after the incident, the shooter was detained by officers. They've described the episode as "isolated" with no other reported injuries.
