The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) in Denver is shaking things up for trash and recycling collectors, and it's important for readers to note the dates. Compost won't be collected during the week of August 25 due to a shortened, 32-hour work schedule and a furlough day on August 29. Trash service will pick up again post-Labor Day on a delayed schedule, as detailed by the City and County of Denver.
For planning purposes, be aware that the traditional Thanksgiving collection schedule is also receiving an overhaul. For instance, there will be no compost or recycling services during the week of November 24. Instead, Denver is streamlining waste management efforts by requesting all residents to set their trash out by 6 a.m. on Monday, November 24. Collections are squished into the shortened 3-day work week due to a citywide furlough day and Thanksgiving holiday.
Has recycling fallen by the wayside? Fret not, it gets a reset post-Thanksgiving. If you were scheduled for recycling during the week of November 24, you should now aim for the week of December 1. And if your date was December 1, you now push it a week further to December 8. From there on, keep to an every-other-week schedule. Cherry Creek Recycling Center also has closures to keep in mind; they'll be shuttered from August 29 to September 1 and from November 27 to December 1.
Don't forget, there's an earlier start time too. Residents are asked to have their trash, recycling, and compost carts, and any large items, curbside by 6 a.m. rather than 7 a.m.Your collection day just got an hour ahead, so it might be your best bet to set things out the night before. In light of these changes, it's a fine time to sign up for composting services through the city's website, especially with weed and leaf seasons ramping up.
