A suspect has been taken into custody following a fatal crash in Denver that resulted in one death and severe injuries to another individual. According to an official social media post by the Denver Police Department, 45-year-old Diego Ortega-Camero is being held for investigation of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault after the incident, which occurred on Sunday at around 7:25 PM.
The police were called to the scene at the intersection of E. Hampden Ave. and S. Yosemite St., where they discovered two adult males who had been riding the same motorcycle. One victim was pronounced dead on the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. It has been revealed that a verbal altercation before the crash involved the victims and Ortega-Camero, where a shot was even fired by one of the motorcyclists. Ortega-Camero is alleged to have intentionally collided with the motorcycle, pushing its occupants into the traffic, where they were struck by another motorist.
Denver Police acted on evidence and witness information to locate Ortega-Camero, who had fled the scene on foot. As the legal process moves forward, charges are pending a final determination by the Denver District Attorney’s Office. The Medical Examiner's Office is expected to release further details about the decedent, including the cause of death.
