An altercation in Lake Forest led to a deputy-involved shooting and an unexpected bite incident involving a police K-9. According to a statement obtained by Orange County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a call regarding 34-year-old Ethan Chase Mull, who was allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident the day before and was wanted on felony warrants for theft, weapons, and narcotics-related offenses.
The incident took place near the corner of El Toro Road and Trabuco Road in a commercial zone where deputies attempted to detain Mull as he exited a store. It was here that Mull reportedly drew a handgun on deputies, prompting one to shoot and critically injure him. As reported by CBS News Los Angeles, Mull was transferred to a local hospital; his condition has not been disclosed by authorities.
Amidst this chaos, a police K-9 inadvertently bit a deputy, necessitating medical treatment. The deputy was later released from the hospital, and no other deputies were reported to have been injured during the confrontation.
The investigation of this deputy-involved shooting will be conducted by the Orange County District Attorney's Office, which is standard procedure. Furthermore, as per legal obligations, audio and video evidence from the scene will be released in coordination with the District Attorney's Office. This incident highlights the unpredictable elements law enforcement officers can often be forced to quickly respond to, in their duty to protect the public.
