Everson Royce Bar, the Arts District staple known for its sprawling patio, will close for good on December 20. The bar made the announcement in an Instagram post.
The news, reported by Time Out, caps an 11-year run for a bar that opened in 2015 and quickly became one of the neighborhood's most reliable gathering spots. Everson Royce Bar sits at the corner of 7th Street and Mateo Street in the Arts District, a stretch of downtown Los Angeles that has turned into a dining and drinking destination over the past decade.
A Decade-Plus Arts District Fixture
Everson Royce Bar was opened by chef Matt Molina and Randy Clement, according to the Los Angeles Times, which described the space's defining features as a 40-foot stretch of marble-topped bar and a back patio that have anchored the room since it opened. Molina, who won a James Beard award while executive chef at Osteria Mozza, built the food program there, the Times reported separately. Silverlake Wine also kept a satellite location next to Everson Royce Bar, tying the spot into Clement's broader portfolio of wine and hospitality businesses around the city.
Clement co-owns Everson Royce Bar along with Silverlake Wine, and together with his wife, April Langford, the couple also owns Highland Park Wine and Triple Beam Pizza, according to Eater LA. Beyond pouring drinks, the bar has also functioned as an event space, offering to host private parties and celebrations on its shared patio, which can accommodate up to 100 guests, per Everson Royce Bar's own site.
Clement-Langford's Altadena Businesses
West Altadena Wine and Spirits, a wine shop and patio on Lincoln Avenue that the couple also co-owns, opened in 2024, Eater LA reports. Eater LA also reported plans for Good Neighbor Bar, a separate business in Altadena.
Part of a Rough Stretch for L.A. Restaurants
The Everson Royce Bar announcement follows a bruising September for Los Angeles dining. Employees Only in West Hollywood served its final cocktail on September 27, according to Eater LA. That same week, Macleod Ale Brewing Co. in Van Nuys closed after operating as a brewery and gathering spot since 2014, Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks shut down after chef Aaron Robbins ran it for two decades, Un Solo Sol wrapped up nearly 16 years in Boyle Heights, and Mona Pasta Bar in Downtown Los Angeles closed at the end of the month.
Everson Royce Bar's decision to close fits a pattern playing out across the city's restaurant and bar scene this year. Customers have until December 20 to visit the Arts District location.
