Viva has just announced a new route for Austinites to head south of the border—directly into the heart of Mexico. Starting November 20, 2025, travelers from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) will be able to take advantage of nonstop flights to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) in Mexico City, with Viva operating this service three times a week, as confirmed by AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi in a recent statement.
Commuters to Mexico City can look forward to a streamlined travel experience. Business trips and vacation getaways just got easier with Viva's cost-effective flights and the facility's easy connections to other major Mexican and selected international destinations, including Cuba and Colombia. Travelers have more choices and flexibility to craft their itineraries.
Austin's expansion with Viva is far from slowing down, as the airline pushes to swiftly develop nonstop services, a boon for increasing tourism and trade, as Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus, highlighted the importance of the new service by saying, "This is a great opportunity to make tourism and trade easier."
Frequent flyers can now mark their calendars and start planning, as Viva's A320 with a seating capacity of 186 will depart from AUS at 12:35 pm and touch down at NLU by 2:55 pm the proposed schedule also includes a return flight leaving Mexico City at 9:15 am and getting back to Austin at 11:25 am, tickets are already up for grabs since August 20, 2025, on the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport official website.
Given that NLU is an alternative to the bustling MEX airport, travelers will enjoy a more contemporary and less cluttered milieu, with the promise of a December debut for train services connecting the airport even more seamlessly to Mexico City proper and a variety of ground transportation options readily ferrying passengers to the city’s central hubs.
