An incident of violence, born from a domestic dispute, ended with shots being fired in McKeesport early Monday. WPXI reported that a call to the police came in around 1:30 a.m. from a woman who claimed her boyfriend had assaulted her. Police were directed to the scene on Highland Avenue, where a standoff ensued with the alleged assailant, who then chose the precipice of night as his escape.
Once outside, the assailant attempted to gain unauthorized entry into a neighbor's domicile. During the break-in attempt, WTAE details that the neighbor, confronted with a man opening a window to enter the apartment, responded by shooting the intruder. First responders transported the man to the hospital, where he remains under critical care.
Allegheny County Police note that the initial domestic disturbance took place with a child present, although the child, aged 2, was in another bedroom when the woman was assaulted.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding these violent acts. The identity of the woman who was allegedly assaulted, as well as her condition following the encounter with her boyfriend, was not immediately released.
