Motorists should prepare for traffic changes in downtown this week. The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is set to host the 2025 National Homeland Security Conference starting today and running through Thursday. As reported by MPDC, this means parking restrictions and road closures are on the horizon.
Specifically, L Street from 7th to 9th Street NW will be cordoned off as a 'Special Event Area,' where emergency no parking will be enforced and streets will be closed to vehicular traffic daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Timely traffic updates can be sourced from x.com/DCPoliceTraffic; a useful tab to keep open if you're navigating the DC streets during this period.
Emergency no-parking signs will be in place, and vehicles in violation face ticketing and possible towing. Drivers near the event should expect delays, and with increased pedestrian traffic, the Metropolitan Police Department and D.C. Department of Transportation recommend using alternate routes or proceeding with caution.
