In what can be considered a swift response by city officials, the City of Duluth has officially rescinded the boil water advisory that had many residents of the upper Lakeside neighborhood on high alert. Issued merely a day prior, the advisory came as a precautionary measure following concerns that the water supply may have been compromised.
Clearly illustrating the efficiency of municipal services, the advisory, which might have soured many a morning coffee, was lifted in less than 24 hours. According to a statement obtained by the City of Duluth, test results have thankfully "confirm that no biological or bacterial contamination has entered the water system and that the drinking water remains safe to consume." Residents of the upper Lakeside neighborhood, who patiently endured the inconvenience of boiling their water, can now return to their normal routines.
The concern was understandably palpable when the notice went out, urging residents to boil their tap water before consumption or use in cooking. The threat of contamination is a serious one, and it is a relief to many that the situation was handled so promptly and effectively. The end of the boil water notice is effective immediately, allowing the residents of Duluth to breathe a sigh of relief and, more importantly, hydrate without fear.
While this incident did put the spotlight on the importance of our public utilities, the residents' compliance once again shines in these occasional, though understandably necessary, disruptions to our daily lives. "The City of Duluth thanks the affected residents for their patience and compliance with this precautionary measure," says the official notice with apparent respect for the community's cooperation during events when acting out of abundance of caution is evident.
