Heads up, Durham residents! With Labor Day approaching, the City of Durham has announced a slew of service changes that will impact waste collection, parks and rec, as well as traffic and transportation services for the holiday. If you have plans that involve any city services, now's the time to jot down these changes and plan accordingly.

The Environmental and Street Services Department will be closed on September 1. Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day.

Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) administrative offices and facilities will be closed, but athletic fields and picnic shelters will be available for rent. Outdoor spraygrounds will operate as usual, and Hillside Pool will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. City Lakes remain closed due to storm damage. For more information, call 919-560-4355 or visit DPR online.

Parking will be free on September 1 in on-street spaces and select city-owned garages and lots. The Park Durham Customer Service Center will be closed. Check the Park Durham website for the Special Event Parking Schedule.

GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS transit services will run on a Sunday schedule. For route updates, call 919-485-7433 or use their apps and social media channels.

Durham One Call will be closed, but service requests can be submitted online, via the app, by texting 919-813-6315, or leaving a voicemail at 919-560-1200. Water Management will handle emergencies at 919-560-4344.
