An early morning blaze at Willow Springs Condominiums in Eagle Mountain left many residents without a home and resulted in injuries for seven individuals, including multiple police officers. According to FOX 13, the fire, which broke out just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, engulfed the building, leading to a significant rescue effort that saw an unconscious resident extricated from a third-floor closet.
The rescued victim was subsequently air-lifted to the hospital with burn injuries. Running inside without a second thought, Jose Villarreal, a resident of the affected apartment complex and father, recounted to ABC4 the moment he realized the danger, saying, "I didn’t grab nothing." His wife, at 39 weeks pregnant, was faced with the distressing situation as they evacuated their home.
The fire destroyed the building's third floor, while lower levels sustained significant water damage. Fire officials declared the fire extinguished by 6 a.m., though a crew remained on-site to monitor the situation, ABC4 reported. Lauren Garner, another resident, told the same outlet how the abrupt wake-up by her eldest, stating, "Mom, there’s a fire," spurred her immediate reaction.
The aftermath of the fire has displayed the community's capacity for togetherness and support in times of crisis. In an interview with ABC4, Jaxon and Paige Adams, a married couple who experienced the calamity first-hand, spoke about the ordeal. "This is, like, the hardest thing we have gone through together in our marriage," Paige said, touched by the support received. The couple received tangible support from their extended network, including housing and financial assistance, as they contemplate their uncertain future.
