A Multnomah County Circuit Court judge sentenced 53-year-old Edgar Ocampo-Reza to 38 years in prison for the long-term sexual abuse of a child. He was convicted on 12 counts of Sodomy in the First Degree and 24 counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree after a one-month delay in proceedings due to his flight to Mexico. Judge David Rees stated the sentence reflected the severe harm caused by the crimes, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office release.
Ocampo-Reza was eventually extradited to Oregon to face trial, where prosecutors presented evidence of abuse that occurred over more than a year. The conviction followed a weeklong trial, with Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney Charles Mickley acknowledging the role of the victim and her friends in coming forward.
Detective Kathryne Manus of the Portland Police Bureau was credited with key investigative work, including securing Ocampo-Reza’s extradition and collecting DNA evidence. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office also highlighted the support provided by Victim Advocate Alie Aguilera. Additional details about the case and sentencing are available on the District Attorney’s Office website.
