The Polk County Sheriff's Office has arrested eight individuals in connection with a brawl at Lake Winterset that disrupted the peace on August 2. Deputies responded to a 3 p.m. call about a fight near the lake's shoreline, but found that the parties involved had scattered, some using boats to flee the scene.
Details of the incident came to light after a cellphone video was posted on social media on Sunday, prompting significant progress in the investigation. According to Polk County Sheriff's Office, the footage revealed a violent scene where multiple participants traded punches, and kicks, two of whom were knocked unconscious. One of these individuals fell into the lake while incapacitated with the other receiving CPR from a helpful onlooker, amidst the chaos, several small children were seen nearby.
Among those who witnessed the incident, was a bystander vacationing with his family on a nearby boat. He recounted the unsettling experience to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, explaining how witnessing the violence marred their day out and caused considerable distress, especially for the young ones. "It negatively impacted my day and caused distress to my family," he said in a statement referenced by the official report published yesterday.
In the aftermath, the Polk County Sheriff's Office has taken the eight suspects into custody. The extent of the charges they face, has not yet been disclosed.
