The El Paso Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol has issued an alert to the community regarding a surge in misleading information being disseminated by smuggling organizations through social media platforms. As per U.S. Customs and Border Protection, these criminal entities are falsely advertising changes to the asylum process and the immigration regulations, which are leading vulnerable individuals into life-threatening situations.
Interim Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar has strongly condemned the actions of these groups, “These criminal networks are putting lives at risk by spreading lies to exploit people for profit,” as obtained by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He went on to emphasize the reality that these journeys often have fatal outcomes. The Border Patrol is tackling the issue head-on, hoping to quell the potentially disastrous consequences of misinformation. Conversely, no actual policy alterations have taken place, meaning that those who decide to follow these illicit paths will be subject to arrest, prosecution, and removal from the United States.
El Paso Sector officials are urging people to dismiss the rumors and reject the narratives woven by smugglers online. They clarified that the only safe and legitimate way to enter the U.S. is through established immigration proceedings.
