The El Paso County Sheriff's Office recently showed its appreciation for one of its own by dedicating the Mounted Unit Barn to Deputy Larry J. Murphy, a testament to his nearly 30-year contribution to the law enforcement community and the region's western heritage, as reported by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff’s Office has named the facility at Norris Penrose Event Center the Deputy Larry J. Murphy Mounted Unit Barn, with Sheriff Joseph Roybal spotlighting Murphy's impactful role in community safety, training, and engagement.
Deputy Murphy's service to the Sheriff's Office is hallmarked by a commitment to public safety and the promotion of law enforcement techniques nationwide, his expertise not only benefiting the local community but also law enforcement units across the country, according to Sheriff Roybal, who lauded Murphy for being the embodiment of a sheriff's deputy and for setting a high standard for the Mounted Unit. "Deputy Murphy's dedication to this Office, our Mounted Unit, and the people of El Paso County is unmatched," Sheriff Roybal stated, as per El Paso County Sheriff's Office, citing the breadth of Murphy's service from rescue operations to patrol support and how he has always led from the front, representing the Office at community events or whenever duty called, making the barn's naming a symbol of the legacy he will leave behind.
The dedication ceremony was not just an occasion to honor Deputy Murphy's illustrious career but also served as an homage to his influence on the Sheriff's Office mission and his efforts in building trust within the community. The event included addresses from different stakeholders, including Sheriff Roybal, members of the Mounted Unit, and community figures who have worked directly with Murphy over the years.
