El Paso Independent School District has officially ushered in the new academic year, and with it, a message of encouragement and innovative updates from Interim Superintendent Martha Aguirre. Announcing the commencement of the 2025-26 school year, Aguirre expressed enthusiasm for the journey ahead, emphasizing the "possibilities and new beginnings" awaiting students, teachers, and families alike, according to El Paso ISD.
In her letter, Aguirre underscored the significance of daily attendance, stating, "Attending class daily ensures students remain on track academically, build strong learning habits, and remain connected to their teachers and peers," as per El Paso ISD. Recognizing that missing even just a few days of school can hinder a student's academic momentum, she conveyed the district's collective commitment to prioritizing attendance. Additionally, Aguirre championed the value of extracurriculars, urging students to engage in the diverse range of activities available, which, in her letter, which was obtained by El Paso ISD, she considers vital in helping "students discover their passions, build friendships, and develop skills that will serve them throughout life."
In a move to bolster educational accessibility, El Paso ISD has expanded its transportation network. Starting this year, Aguirre detailed the launch of the "Zone of Excellence" program, which allows students to select any school within their zone and receive complimentary transportation. This initiative is framed as a stride towards increased equity and aims to furnish students with "greater access to a variety of programs."
