The El Paso Police Department is home to a unique squad member, a canine officer with a fitting nickname and a record of distinguished service. Mia, known among her colleagues as "La Tóxica," is the sole female K9 in the unit and has been an active member of the force for three and a half years. The department recently showcased her on their social media, highlighting both her role in law enforcement and her life off-duty.
At five years old, Mia has already carved a place for herself in a male-dominated field, Ofc. Ortiz, her handler who's been with her since the beginning of her service, has been instrumental in her development. According to a social media post by the El Paso Police Department, Mia enjoys a game of fetch and playfully evading her pitbull sister with a ball. This level of high energy seems to translate well into her professional work, where she excels in various assignments, including partnering with Department of Public Safety pilots to track down wanted subjects.
The Facebook post from the department detailed one of Mia's favorite tasks, stating her "Favorite Assignment: Partnering with DPS pilots to track down wanted subjects, keeping the city safe and earning her Whataburger meal," as per the El Paso Police Department. It's apparent that 'La Tóxica' is not only beloved but also heavily relied upon by both her human counterparts and the community she serves. This bond is evidenced by the detail that following successful missions, she's treated to a meal from Whataburger, a regional favorite.
