An El Paso County Sheriff's Office social media post detailed the arrest of a woman involved in a vehicle theft and subsequent hit-and-run. Sheriff Oscar Ugarte provided an account of the events leading to the suspect's capture on Thursday. According to the post, at around 4:06 p.m., deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station were dispatched to the 14800 block of Las Colonias Road in regards to a stolen 2021 white Chevrolet Silverado, valued at around $70,000.

After being alerted to the vehicle theft, the deputies soon received another call concerning a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of N. Clint-San Elizario Road and Alameda Avenue, involving the same Silverado. The vehicle was reported to have fled westbound on Alameda Avenue. A "Be on the Lookout" (B.O.L.O.) alert was subsequently issued to nearby agencies. Later, the stolen truck was discovered abandoned in a desert area south of Eaton Manor and Flamborough Drive, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office reported.

A breakthrough came at approximately 9 p.m. when the El Paso Police Department detained a woman matching the suspect's description from the B.O.L.O. She was identified as 34-year-old Juana Camacho of Tornillo, Texas. Upon transport to the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division took over the case. During interrogation, Camacho confessed to the theft of the Silverado and her involvement in the hit-and-run incident.

Camacho faces charges for Theft of Property ≥ $30,000 < $150,000 and Collision Involving Damage. She was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility, with her total bond set at $21,000. The social media update from the incident concludes with detailing the suspect's acknowledgement of her actions during the theft and the accident. The Sheriff's Office has not provided further information about the case or Camacho's legal representation, if any.
